Another exciting year at Eukanuba is coming up soon! Does anyone have any special plans while you're there? Last year we went to the aquarium and a boat ride and had a great time. Just wondering what everyone will be up to.

OMG I'm so excited only a couple of weeks to go and Punky is huge (I think she looks like a brindle cow). She eats and eats and eats. She has become the most needy dog under the sun but she is so pregnant that she still is just adorable. I wonder how many puppies are in there?

harvard study

I was contacted this evening by Jordan Comins, Human Evolutionary Biology, MBB; Senior, Harvard University as well as Marc Hauser PhD who are reaching out to reputable dog breeders that might be interested in participating in an upcoming study. Their research will involve neonatal puppies and be focused on scientific studies in development. At this time they are just seeing if there is any interest in breeders wanting to participate, and the finer details will be worked out shortly and conveyed to the public. They did not state whether the study would be the new England area or beyond. The cognitive testing would be done at the home of the breeder at a convenient time for the breeder. Completely non-invasive. You may know Dr Hauser from his current studies at Harvard University's Canine Cognition Lab featured in the AKC Gazette and seen here:

This study will be open to all breeds. I offered to spread the word among the reputable breeders of purebred dogs I have contact with due to our own positive experiences with the current Harvard study. My dogs are involved in the Harvard studies and it has been a very positive experience for both by French Bulldogs and myself. Permission to forward this email.

need less expencive food recomendations

       Hi all   This is Sam Jr's Daddy

      I'm gonna word this a little differently then Meg did in her post about eagle pack holistic large and giant breed Food.

      We need to find a new Dry food for Jr. He's 1 year old Now, and he really doesn't care for this food. And I'm getting really annoyed with spending over 50 dollars for 30 pound bags of dog food. Plus i have to tell you that it Really bothered me that the 1st things this new company did when taking over was lower the amount of food from 33lbs {which was a low amount to begin with}to 30 lbs !!!!!!!!!!and have the nerve to raise the price .

      I want to continue feeding Jr a High Quality Dry food But Id like to find a less expensive alternative

      PLEASE Guys and Gals ,,,, If any of You have found a less expensive High Quality food That Your Babies are doing well on ,Please let us know

OT-Cats and Ferrets can get H1N1

Last week at the vet they were discussing an alert about ferrets getting H1N1. . . now it appears a cat has come done with it as well.

Need Help to understand issue

I have been all over this forum since last one year Reading Great information and trying to get some knowledge.
Our Boy Ballo is having issues since Last 7 days:
His details :11 Months Old Weigh -185Lb..
(He is not Neutered yet as -thanks to this Forum i will wait for 2 years)
He is our first Pet ever so we might be doing something wrong.

He is sulking a Lot ..we think he wants to go out and poop or Pee..
I take him out he Sniffs like Crazy all around pee's everywhere Outside but
few drops.
When he comes back he want to got out again and just sniffs Grass etc.. like Crazy..
He is not eating much since last one week .
Today I took him to vet She says he has bacteria in his Urine and gave me
antibiotics for 10 days and has asked to return after 10 days to test Urine again.
We are Confused about his State.

I am also Sharing few of his pictures -finally I figured to reduce the Photo size

Ohio Voters Send Message to HSUS

It comes as no surprise that the Humane Society of the United States was
miffed by Ohios passage Tuesday of the states Issue Two measure, by a
substantial margin. It also will be no surprise that HSUS will fail to grasp
the message contained in the measures passage.

Approval of Issue 2, which establishes the Ohio Livestock Care Standards
Board to govern the state's livestock welfare issues, tells HSUS in no
uncertain terms that Ohioans want to keep control of their state's affairs
in the hands of fellow Ohioans. The Board will be chaired by the Director of
the Ohio Department of Agriculture and will be made up of 13 Ohioans,
including family farmers, veterinarians, experts in food safety and
University personnel. It also will include a humane society representative.

Passage of Issue 2 says that Ohioans choose not to be bound by opinions of
outsiders who attempt to impose their own ideas and legislation on farmers
before quickly moving on to their next conquest, never being subject to the
consequences of their actions. Unlike HSUS leadership, the members of the
Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board reside in, and will remain, in Ohio.

Of course, HSUS is not happy with Ohioans' decision. "By packaging Issue 2
as pro-animal welfare and pro-food safety, the architects of the ballot
measure went a long way to assure its passage," says HSUS President Wayne
Pacelle. He indeed knows about going a long way on issues. After all, HSUS
attempts to extend their opinions and force legislation on issues in which
they are not experts, in states where they are not residents. Talk about
going a long way.

Pacelle and the HSUS tried to tell Ohio residents what is best for their
state and how they need to practice animal agriculture. The message that
Ohio voters is sending to HSUS is that animal welfare issues in their state
will be determined by those who know the most about the subject -- Ohioans.
The voters have said that the subject will be governed by resident experts
based on experience and science, not on emotion, which HSUS freely proffers
at every opportunity.

Pacelle either is oblivious to the message sent by Ohio voters or chooses to
ignore it. "The Ohio Farm Bureau and other agribusiness lobby groups cooked
it up in an effort to block real reform," he says, ignoring the fact that
the measure was decided by Ohio voters, not just those who back the measure.

Even though HSUS chooses to ignore the states message to them, Ohio has
spoken. Good for them.

2. What is your dog's favorite toy?
     Sam's (rip) fave was a large orange cone and well Guinness loves his big huge rawhide and this firm rubber squeaker they sell at petsmart its like a duck weeble woblle sort of.

3. Does your dog like peanut butter?
     nope

4. What is your dog's favorite treat?
      any and all, last night it was chicken bones covered in the vaccuum bag dust from the garbage, hehehe I for got to close the garbage can.

5. do you let your dog drink out of the toilet?
     ewe, nope. But if left open, even though there is water available, I might find the dog or the cat in there.

Well I can't think of any more fun questions right now, so how about some serious ones.

1. Guinness hasn't been fixed yet, he is gonna be 14 monts in the next week.   I was reading about the incontinence in the girl dogs and was wondering if that could happen with the boys (although i think he is passed that age) my last boy had constant uti and incontinence-ugh, maybe it was cause he was fixed so early. My vet told me to wait on him. wondering what you all d

2.   Also Guinness has always been very friendly @ the dog park, last time we went there was trouble with a puppy great dane, that was younger and taller, both dogs were not fixed. Guinness was aggresive, very, for the first time. Do you think it was because the dane could put his head on top of G's or them both being not fixed? or both? and do you think he will be less aggressive once he is fixed? Because he is my traveling, camping, let's go play with some other dogs friend. Sam I could trust, but not so sure with this one.

3. Also G hasn't gained any wait for like 3 months. I know the second year is a slow grow (can't remember how Sam did).   He went through a period of not wanting to eat, i thought he was sick, but he was always ready for treats or my food. Lately, i have cooked his food which i mix with kibble (brown rice chicken, chicken livers, green beans). His kibble was Diamond lamb n rice but he hates it, now he eats something else, can't remember the name right now as the bag has been thrown out, but he loves it, it is a higher quality, he doesn't seem to have any allergies or poop probs with it. He is hanging @ 135 lbs, what ya'll think?

I can't think of anymore, but will let ya know if i do.

With the recent Swine Flu Epidemic, I thought it might be helpful to share this chart as a resource. Stay Healthy!!!! DIFFERENCES BETWEEN COLD, SEASONAL FLU & H1N1 SYMPTOMS

FEVER	Fever is rare with a cold.	Fever is common with the seasonal flu.	Fever is usually present with H1N1 in up to 80% of all flu cases. A temperature of 101
COUGHING	A hacking, productive (mucus-producing) cough is often present with a cold.	A dry and hacking cough is often present with the seasonal flu.	A non-productive (non-mucus producing) cough is usually present with H1N1 (sometimes referred to as dry cough).*
ACHES	Slight body aches and pains can be part of a cold.	Moderate body aches are common with the seasonal flu.	Severe aches and pains are common with H1N1.*
STUFFY NOSE	Stuffy nose is commonlypresent with a cold and typically resolves spontaneously within a week.	A runny nose is commonly present with the seasonal flu.	Stuffy nose is not commonly present with H1N1.
CHILLS	Chills are uncommon with a cold.	Chills are mild to moderate with the seasonal flu.	60% of people who have H1N1 experience chills.
TIREDNESS	Tiredness is fairly mild with a cold.	Tiredness is moderate and more likely referred to as alack of energy with the seasonal flu.	Tiredness is moderate to severe with H1N1.*
SNEEZING	Sneezing is commonly presentwith a cold	Sneezing is common present with the seasonal flu.	Sneezing is not common with H1N1.
SUDDEN SYMPTOMS	Cold symptoms tend to develop over a few days.	Symptons tend to develop over a few days and include flushed face, loss of appetite, dizziness and/or vomiting/nausea. Symptoms usually last 4-7 days, depending on the individual. Diarrhea is common.	H1N1 has a rapid onset within 3-6 hours. H1N1 hits hard and includes sudden symptoms like high fever, aches and pains. HEADACHE	A headache is fairly uncommonwith a cold.	A headache is fairly common with the seasonal flu.	A headache is very common with H1N1 and present in 80% of cases.*
SORE THROAT	Sore throat is commonlypresent with a cold.	Sore throat is commonly present with the seasonal flu.	Sore throat is not commonly present with H1N1.

PREVENTION TIPS:
cough & sneeze into your elbow
wash hands with soap and warm water for a minimum of 15 -20 seconds. Sing your abc's or happy birthday to you
use hand sanitizer when soap & water are not available
avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth without washing or using hand sanitizer first

Here are a few 6 month shots (and I believe one @ about 2.5) of the Newmster- He is a full brother/same litter as "King" from breeder Derek Mann. It is so interesting to see how different they mature; my guy still looks like such a puppy and acts like one, too. Thanks for looking; I love my boy...(and my husband, too- most of the time) Can't wait till I can get him to "stack" as you experienced folks call it; we are a bit behind in our training...Oh, he has me trained perfectly.....

Someday, I would love a puppy out of him. Should I say from him? Him as a stud? I'm not a breeder or a shower; he would not be championed (not that he could be- he is in my eyes). But, we need to wait and see; there is a lot of testing that would have to be done
